Is the Cash for Clunkers Program spent? The short answer is yes, but in reality the government will most likely be buying it again, considering the immense interest and success it had in its first year. The program’s first scheduled billion was spent in four days. The government followed the enormous interest the program received by dropping more cash into the project, adding $2 billion more. Even though that has been spent and the program will end earlier than expected, the success of the program pretty much guarantees it will be back again next year.
